Chief minister Mamata Banerjee is set to arrive at Birbhum district late evening today for her two-day official visit.

She will arrive at Andal airport and then will reach Santiniketan by road and will spend the night at the state guest house, Rangabitan.

However, the district administration of West Burdwan district has also made alternative arrangements in Durgapur, if she wishes to stay the night in the steel township.

In fact, this will be the first visit by chief minister Mamata Banerjee at Tagore’s abode of peace, after it has received the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site.

On Sunday, she will visit the district headquarters at Suri and will have her official programme at Chandmari Ground. Top cops of the state government, SP and DM of Birbhum and local minister Chandranath Singha inspected her venue yesterday.

She will hand over appointment letters of state government jobs to land losers of the Deucha Panchami coal mines project, the second largest coal mine project in the world.

She will also lay the foundation stone and inaugurate several projects during her programme. On Sunday afternoon, she will leave for Kolkata by helicopter. She will also inaugurate a resort by the West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation.

The chief minister will also inaugurate her dream project, the Biswa Bangla University, set up at Shibpur Mouza in Bolpur.

A temporary helipad has been set up near her venue.

“She has selected the venue of her programme and we are eagerly waiting for her official visit to Birbhum district. The CM will provide facilities to several government projects and will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of several projects,” added Chandranath Singha, the MSME minister.

Both MP’s of Birbhum, Shatabdi Roy and Asit Mal will also be present. This will probably be her last official visit before the dates for next upcoming Lok Sabha polls are announced.

She is also likely to hold meetings with the top leadership in the district including Kajal Sheikh, the sabhadhipati of Birbhum zilla parishad.

The TMC will contest the Lok Sabha polls in Birbhum district for the first time in the absence of its former district president, Anubrata Mondal.
